Against all odds with teams from the big leagues, the PH National Sepak Takraw team achieved an unexpected victory by winning a the awaited 30th SEA games 2019 in Subic, Zambales.
Even though they were at odd with contenders from Vietnam, Cambodia and others, they cleared their way up to the ranks eventually securing their victory against the reigning Vietnamese champion with a decisive 2-0 win in the semis.
The Filipino’s success was not just about being good at the sport but a display of grit, collective effort, and disciplined defense, masterfully defying downing expectations throughout the competition.
Their unanticipated victory was not because of pure luck but because of their unmatched will, determination and discipline throughout their tiring conditioning for the competition.
Jason Huerte was recognized for his stellar two-way play and outstanding leadership, while Rheyjay Ortouste was the hero of the final, scoring much of the points with his coordinated plays and strategic manuevers, with the victory symbolically sealed by a roaring bicycle kick from Ronsited Gabayeron that sent the crowd into raptures.
This breakthrough victory signals a new and more competitive era for Sepak, proving that a unified team with combined resultion can even successfully challenge the greatest sport’s traditional giants.
